"People see the sign for the Blair Museum of Lithophanes when they are visiting the Botanical Garden and they wander in. First they are curious about what a lithophane is. Once they learn about the magic of lithophanes they wonder why this gem of a museum isn't better known. They are totally amazed that the largest collection of lithophanes in the WORLD --- is located right here in Toledo. How do I know all this? Well, it happened to me. I knew what a lithophane was, but I had no idea there was a museum devoted to this topic anywhere in the world and no idea there were 2,300 here in Toledo. Now as curator, I want to invite everyone else to become mesmerized with these delicate porcelain marvels that are truly magical" said Dr. Carney.
